Content Standards / Performance Standards

When speaking of standards, it is very important to distinguish content standards from performance standards. Content standards refer to what students should learn. In other words the content of the subject-area they will study. Whereas, performance standards indicate how well they know such content. They indicate what students actually know, up to what extent they have met the standards.
